Position Title: Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant (COTA) – School Setting

Position Summary:

The Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant (COTA) will work in a school setting with children who have developmental and/or physical disabilities. The COTA will assist the Occupational Therapist (OT) in the provision of therapeutic services and implementation of treatment plans for the students. A successful candidate will have strong interpersonal skills and experience working with children.

Key Responsibilities:
• Assist the OT in evaluating and assessing the students’ strengths, weaknesses, and functional limitations related to their disabilities.
• Develop and implement individualized treatment plans that address the students’ needs and are in accordance with the OT’s recommendation.
• Deliver interventions and activities designed to promote sensory, motor, cognitive, and emotional growth and development.
• Monitor and document students’ progress and make necessary adjustments to the treatment plan as per the OT’s direction.
• Encourage and motivate the students to participate in therapeutic activities, and teach them strategies to improve their independence, self-care, and daily living skills.
• Collaborate with the OT, other health professionals, and educational staff in the planning and execution of services that promote the students’ success and inclusion in the school setting.
• Maintain accurate records and reports, and communicate effectively with parents, caregivers, and relevant stakeholders.

Requirements:
• Possess a valid certification as an Occupational Therapy Assistant issued by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT).
• Hold a current license to practice as a COTA in the state of employment.
• Have experience working with children with disabilities in a school setting.
• Knowledgeable in assistive technology, adaptive equipment, sensory integration, and behavioral interventions.
• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Must complete a background check and meet all other requirements as specified by the school district.

Working Conditions:
The COTA will work in a school environment, which can be fast-paced and challenging at times. The position is full-time and may require some evening or weekend work to attend meetings or events. The COTA may need to use adaptive equipment and/or assistive technology to perform job duties. The position requires standing, walking, bending, and lifting up to 25 pounds. The COTA will work under the supervision of an OT and report to the Director of Special Education. Salary and benefits will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
